Voice over IP offers many advantages over more traditional analog or digital telephone service. The primary advantage being lower operating and aquisition costs as the telephone system runs on regular computer hardware and telephone handsets are standardized. Addtionally, both local and long distance telephone service can be had for a fraction of the cost from traditional providers. Voice over IP allows you to easily work from home or other remote locations. VoIP offers easy integration with email systems, call recording, automatic call distribution (ACD) and lends itself to custom design. Best of all, because it is based on open standards you won’t be locked into a system or provider.
